Indoor Water Parks Warm Winter Getaways
The temperatures may be rising a little, but it is still winter and many of us are suffering from cabin fever. A great warm winter getaway to an indoor water park is an adventure sure to please everyone. Indoor water parks are great places to burn off some energy or kick back and relax. The parks areas are usually kept at a balmy 84 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit and the water is warm too. Not into water rides? No problem. Most parks are set in resorts or connected to hotels with all the amenities. You can enjoy a spa day, shopping, dinning, and local area attractions, plus dozens of activities geared to all age groups. Here are a few we recommend.
Great Wolf Lodge, Niagara Falls, Ontario. Step inside and become emersed into a North Woods camp. The warm wood, knotty pine, and natural stone are reminiscent of an Adirondack cabin. The eclectic decor is accentuated with animatronic bears, moose, beavers, and wolves. The resort features themed suites the kids will go crazy over. Adults will enjoy the whirlpool and fireplace suites. The 100,000 square foot water park is the main attraction. Little kids have their own water rides and pools so they can splash and play safely. Older kids, teens, and thrill seekers alike can challenge themselves on the slides and water rides like the Niagara Rapids Run water coaster. Everyone can get drenched at Fort Mackenzie, the 4-story interactive tree house. Watch out for the bucket! The Lazy River is a great place for adults to chill out while the kids are screaming down the slides. Great Wolf Lodge also has plenty of activities outside of the waterpark. Kids can take the MagiQuest, an interactive adventure game played within the lodge itself. The lodge also offers an arcade, story time, crafts, stuff your own plush critter, kid-friendly bowling, and Scooops Kid Spa with ice cream themed manicures and pedicures. Adults have their own spa, plus a fitness center, and coffee shop. There are plenty of dinning options and two shops as well. The best part, your water park pass is free with a room reservation.
Splash Lagoon, Erie, Pennsylvania. This water park is conveniently connected to three major hotels and has plenty of shops and restaurants on the premises. Coming just for the day? Changing rooms and lockers are available for day splashers. The park features extreme water slides and rides like the Aqua Tumbler for thrill seekers and a special Kid Zone for the tadpoles. A 200,000 gallon wave pool generates waves as high as 6 feet! Have fun at the 5-story interactiveTiki Treehouse. When the horn blows run to, or away from, the 48 foot high Tiki Bucket. Dumping 1,000 gallons of water, the Tiki Bucket gets everyone wet. Take a leisurely turn around the Lazy River and admire the local art, but beware of the waterfall. Non-water park activities include the live Macaw Exhibit, arcade, Tree Tops Rope Course, and Lazer Tag. Splash Lagoon is a great choice for weekenders or day trippers.
